UFC Lightweight champion Islam Makhachev defeated Dustin Poirier at UFC 302 in June. Now he has started taking digs at Conor McGregor. Makhachev recently shared a video in his Instagram story showing “The Notorious” getting knocked out by Dustin Poirier. While sharing the video, Makhachev wrote, “I love watching this.”
If you are a diehard MMA fan, you must be aware of the rivalry between McGregor and Dustin Poirier. The two have faced each other three times in the UFC octagon and each time their clash was a stunning watch for the fans.
Poirier and McGregor’s rivalry was one of the biggest in the UFC
In 2014 at UFC 178, Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor faced each other for the first time and the Irishman won the match by TKO. After six years in 2021, the two clashed again and this time “The Diamond” got his revenge as he also won over the “Mystic Mac” by TKO. The two faced off for the third time at UFC 264, and the fight was quite brutal. Before the fight, McGregor accused Dustin’s wife of sliding into his DMs and also made some harsh remarks. However, in the Octagon, McGregor got punished by Poirier hard as he broke his ankle and lost the bout via TKO.
Makhachev loves to mock McGregor
Interestingly, this is not the first time Makhachev has mocked McGregor. Soon after “Mystic Mac” withdrew from UFC 303, Makhachev called him a ‘chicken’ for refusing to fight due to a pinky toe injury. The Irishman has confirmed that he will be back in action next year. However, according to renowned MMA journalist Ariel Helwani, McGregor will be seen fighting at UFC 310.

Although UFC President Dana White has not confirmed a date for McGregor’s return yet, the former UFC champion’s comeback seems more or less confirmed. As for Makhachev, he is to undergo treatment for a hand injury. The Dagestani fighter was diagnosed with a partial ligament tear, which might require surgery. This could lead to Makhachev missing the whole action for 2024. However, he has expressed the desire to defend his lightweight title at the end of the year. Although the possibility of a future clash between Makhachev and McGregor is very low, the fans seem to enjoy their online war.
