Ipswich Town vs Wolves: Preview
Ipswich Town form analysis
Town continued their League Cup campaign on penalties after drawing 2-2 at Reading, twice taking the lead through Humphreys and Ladapo. They then earned an excellent 3-2 home win over Cardiff in the Championship, again seeing Ladapo score twice in a comeback victory.
Ipswich made it three wins from three after beating Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 away, thanks to Chaplin’s goal. They continued their cup form with a 1-0 win at Southampton in the League Cup as Hutchinson netted. Most recently, Ipswich outscored Blackburn 4-3 at home in a thriller, with Broadhead, Hirst and Luongo on target.
Overall, Ipswich have been in excellent goalscoring form, netting 11 goals in their last 5 games. Ladapo and Broadhead have formed a prolific partnership upfront. However, some defensive weaknesses have been exposed, conceding 8 in those games. Maintaining their attacking threat while tightening up at the back will be key for the side to retain momentum.
Wolves form analysis
Wolves began with a crucial 1-0 win away at Everton thanks to new signing Kalajdzic’s late goal. They followed that up with an emphatic 5-0 home win over Blackpool in the League Cup, with Kalajdzic again netting along with a Silva brace. However, defensive issues resurfaced in a 2-3 home loss to Crystal Palace despite goals from Hwang and Cunha.
Wolves then suffered a 1-3 home defeat to Liverpool, taking the lead through Hwang before collapsing in the second half. Most recently they drew 1-1 away at Luton, with Neto’s opener canceled out by a Morris penalty.
Overall, Wolves have struggled for consistency in both results and performances. New arrivals like Kalajdzic and Cunha have added a goal threat, but flaky defending has cost Wolves points. Their best display was the 5-0 cup win over Blackpool when everything clicked. However, Wolves have lacked that level in the Premier League. Wolves must improve their resilience and cut out individual errors at the back to turn draws into wins.
