IPL 2024 Auction: Just few hours before the deadline of announcing IPL retentions was going to end on November 26, RCB & other franchisees got the news that Mumbai Indians were releasing Cameron Green from the squad. He was bought by MI for a stunning price of Rs 17.50 crore. MI desperately want Hardik Pandya back into their squad but didn’t had enough money for the trade. So they decided to release Cameron Green from their lineup. Reportedly the trade between MI & GT happened right after the retention window was closed. The trade of players can still happen till December 12.
On November 27, MI announced the home coming of Hardik & the release of Green simultaneously. And much to fans surprise RCB made the big announcement of acquiring Cameron green from MI. While MI was already thinking of getting back Pandya for a long time, RCB made a last minute decision to retain green. The franchise arranged a quick meeting between RCB head coach Andy Flower, team director Mo Bobat and others to make that call.
IPL 2024 Auction: Andy Flower revealed RCB’s Strategy about trading players
The Head Coach of RCB, Andy flower unveiled the reasons that influence retention & release of players. Valuable inputs from senior players, a purse that helps us to have a competitive advantage at the auction & having as many options as possible are some of the key points we keep in mind while trading or releasing any player.
Speaking on RCB Bold diaries, Bobat further said that the team is looking ahead to add more power to ether middle order with a rich solid top order in place. The RCB management said that on retention day they had a quick meeting as they had already shortlisted the players they want to keep & release. But the moment they came to know that green is available for inclusion they sat together to discuss about his inclusion. He further said that Green fitted in perfectly in the RCB plan’s to strengthen the middle order.
Bobat is all praise for Cameron Green
Talking about Cameron Green, Bobat said that he is a high quality batters who come handy against both pace & spin. He has some good international experience in his kitty & he will enjoy playing at Chinnaswamy. Bobat further said that he is a good bowler & bowls well with pace & bounce which are the attributes RCB were looking in home conditions. He also emphasized on his fielding quality by saying that they are aware how exceptional fielder he is & the catches he has taken at gully is impressive.
The key point of RCB management meeting was to finalize whether to trade Green or buy him at the auction. But finally they decided that they can’t risk a player of Green’s caliber & decided to trade him form MI.
The Head Coach said that trading Green was a type of mini project for RCB’s master-planners. The management discussed how crucial it was to have a solid group of all-rounders & also have the right balance of overseas & Indian players in the lineup. After checking the squad & the availability of players they took instant decision of having Green with the RCB squad.
