The much-anticipated event of the year, IPL 2024 auction is all set to happen today in Dubai. The event is no less than a celebrated affair as 10 IPL franchisees will indulge in an intense war to acquire the best team for the upcoming edition of the league. It’s the day of the IPL auction where more than 300 players will go under the hammer.
Initially, a huge 1100 players submitted their names for the auction out of which the teams have shortlisted 333 players for the league. But an end-moment withdrawal means the number now comes to 332 players. Though most of them can go unsold many would find a perfect franchise to play with.
Records will be broken, benchmark to be set in IPL 2024 Auction
Now that’s what the BCCI has hinted that this ‘mini auction’ will be no less than a grand affair as some biggies of World Cricket have enrolled their name for the IPL 2024 auction. The star-studded event will feature Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Travis Head, and Rachin Ravindra & promises to deliver a nerve-triggering 8 hours of entertainment. The icing on the cake is the return of Rishabh Pant who will be with the Capitals management on the table to get hands on the most valuable players & strengthen their squad.
IPL 2024 Auction: Purse Available with the franchisees
All the 10 franchisees have a purse of a total of Rs 262.95 crores out of which the Titans have the majority of purse i.e. a sum of Rs 38.15 crores followed by the second biggest purse of Rs 34 crores for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Then comes KKR & CSK who are the other two teams with a huge bag of over 30 crore. Delhi Capitals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings have plenty of money too with ₹28.95 crores, ₹23.25 crore, and ₹29.1 crores respectively to fine-tune their squad of players.
Mumbai Indians boast of 17.75 crore purse whole Lucknow Super Giants ( ₹13.15 crore), and Rajasthan Royals ( ₹14.5 crore) have retained the majority of players & have the smallest purse than their competitors.
How many slots can the franchisees fill in the IPL 2024 Auction?
A total of 77 slots are available with franchisees to fill out 213 Indian players & 116 overseas players. The format of the auction is not that complicated as the Players are divided into different sets based on their skills & will be chosen when their names are withdrawn from the bowl. Female Auctioneer Mallika Sagar who conducted the WPL 2023 auction will replace Hugh Edmeades becoming the first female auctioneer in IPL’s 16-year-long history.
A total of 23 players are listed in the highest price bracket of 2 crores while 13 players have registered themselves under the base price of 1.5 crores. After these two elite brackets, there is the ₹1 crore bracket, ₹75 lakh bracket, ₹50 lakh, ₹20 lakh and so on. The presence of certain biggies has raised the stocks of the IPL 2024 auction while the absence of certain players has become the talking point of the event. The prolific duo of England in the face of Jofra Archer & Ben Stokes are missing on the IPL 2024 Auction list. While Shakib-Al-Hasan & Joe Root too are away from the list.

Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2024 auction the trade-in & release of certain players has grabbed the limelight. Mumbai Indians have traded in Hardik Pandya from Titans for a huge 12 crores & has elevated his post to the Captain replacing Rohit Sharma. KKR will welcome their Captain Shreyas Iyer who is coming after recovering from an injury. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals will welcome their Captain Rishabh Pant who stayed away from Action after his tragic accident.
RCB turned heads around by releasing Hasaranga & Hazlewood & trading in Green from Mumbai. One of the major talking points of the IPL 2024 auction is the return of Gautam Gambhir as the mentor of KKR. Among the released Players List some of the players are those who pulled out of the tournament while some are those who have taken voluntary retirement.
CSK has released Ben Stokes as he decided to take voluntary retirement, while Ambati Rayudu was released as he announced retirement in IPL 2023. The Kolkata-based franchise made some bold decisions by releasing key players Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, and Lockie Ferguson which left the entire cricket fraternity in shock.
