A few days remain before the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) season begins, and veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of India asks his former team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), for assistance. Remarkably, Ashwin debuted in the IPL with CSK in 2008 and continued to play for the Chennai-based team until 2015.
Taking to the microblogging site ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), the 37-year-old said his kids would love to see CSK assist him in getting tickets to the opening ceremony and the game. More specifically, on March 22, the curtain-raiser at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium will pit the reigning champions, CSK, against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“The demand for tickets to the #CSKvRCB #IPL2024 opener at Chepauk is insane. My children want to watch the game and the opening ceremony. Please help, @ChennaiIPL,” Ashwin wrote on X.
IPL 2024:

One of the most successful off-spinners of all time, Ravichandran Ashwin, is getting ready to play for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 2024 Indian Premier League. The cricketer from Tamil Nadu made his IPL debut in the 2009 season after signing with CSK as a domestic player for the 2008 IPL season. Up until 2015, the 37-year-old played for the Chennai-based team for eight consecutive seasons.
In the 2010 IPL, he had a memorable season, taking 13 wickets and assisting CSK in their maiden IPL victory. In 2011, he took 20 wickets in total and contributed to the team’s second straight championship. From 97 games, he claimed 90 wickets for the Super Kings.
Following stints with a number of different teams, Ashwin was acquired by RR at the 2022 IPL auction. In his debut season with Rajasthan, he amassed 191 runs and 12 wickets, propelling the team to the championship. It is anticipated that he will also demonstrate his bowling prowess in the upcoming competition.
Notably, the Ranchi-born cricketer MS Dhoni-led CSK to an unprecedented fifth IPL title in 2023 with a thrilling five-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans in the final. Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, who has also led the Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, became the most successful captains in the league with their win.
Despite suffering a knee injury in the previous edition, Dhoni persisted and thrilled the crowd each time he took the field. The 42-year-old hit his best ever, smashing 104 runs from 12 innings at a strike rate of 182.46 (his best in a single season) with three fours and ten sixes.
