India Pacer Arundhati Reddy Reprimanded for ICC Code of Conduct Breach

India fast bowler Arundhati Reddy has been reprimanded for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during India’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 clash against Pakistan. The incident occurred during the final over of the first innings, when Reddy gestured toward the pavilion after dismissing Pakistan batter Nida Dar.

Reddy was found in violation of Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article addresses “using language, actions, or gestures which disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an International Match.” The breach was classified as a Level 1 offence, the least severe under the ICC’s disciplinary system.

In addition to the official reprimand, Reddy has received one demerit point on her disciplinary record. This marks her first offence in a 24-month period.

The charges were brought forward by the on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Lauren Agenbag, along with third umpire Jacqueline Williams and fourth umpire Claire Polosak. Reddy admitted to the charge and accepted the proposed sanction, issued by match referee Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel. As a result, no formal hearing was necessary.

Level 1 offences under the ICC Code of Conduct carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50 percent of a player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points.

Despite the reprimand, Reddy played a crucial role in India’s victory, taking career-best figures of 3/19. India won the match by six wickets, and Reddy was named Player of the Match for her outstanding performance.
