Team India tour of India will begin on December 10 with three match t20is series. The squad for the white ball series is yet to be announced & as per the reports, the BCCI will announce the squads for the series soon. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah & Agarkar led selection committee are likely to meet in Delhi to discuss the team & India’s roadmap for the T20is with World Cup slated to be played in America in June 2024.
Who will lead Indian team in T20is
This is the current topic of debate in the Indian team as it’s still not clear who will lead India’s t20I team. India’s T20I captain Hardik Pandya is out of action with with a ligament tear. Currently, Suryakumar Yadav is leading the team in the Australia t20I series. So as of now Suryakumar Yadav & Rohit Sharma are the two candidates who can lead India’s squad in South Africa ty20I series. But what will happen if Hardik gets fit on time & return for the series? The answer is definitely with BCCI & we will know as the time will pass.
India Tour of South Africa: Who will Captain in Odis & Tests
It is possible that Rohit Sharma will return as full time captain in ODI & Test series. While Virat Kohli has reportedly pulled out of from the white ball series of South Africa tour inorder to manage his workload. While Rohit’s participation in the South Africa white ball series is still under doubt. Rohit has led Indian team in the World Cup 2023 with efficient & BCCI are likely to retain him as a captain. There are no talks of replacing Rohit Sharma as captain as of now.
Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul to return for Tests
Both Shreyas Iyer & KL Rahul are on track of recovery & are all set to feature in Test squad’s Playing XI. There is also possibility that KL Rahul will be ask to keep wickets in the Tests too. Iyer would be back & this would mean Ajinkya Rahane loses his place in the Test side. Let’s see who will make a comeback to the squad & all will be known when the squad is announced.
Rahul Dravid to continue as head Coach
BCCI has further confirmed that Rahul Dravid has extended his contract as Head coach. However, the details of the extension were not mentioned in the Press release. As per the reports, Dravid will stay as head coach until the t20 World Cup 2024. While Dravid is staying as head coach, he might not want many changes in the lineup. He is returning with the same support staff with Vikram Rathour as batting coach, Paras Mhambrey as bowling coach and T Dlip a fielding coach.
Important dates of India Tour of South Africa
The tour starts with t20I leg, with the first game to be played on December 10 in Durban. While the second t20I will be played on December 12 in Gqeberha and third in Johannesburg. The ODIs start on December 17 with first game in Joburg, second in Gqeberha and third in Paarl. The Tests will be played from December 26 to 30 in Centurion and from January 3 to 7 in Cape Town.
