India At Asian Games 2023: Esha Singh, a teenage shooter, took the lead and led the Indian women’s 10-meter air pistol team to a silver medal on Friday, giving India its 14th overall medal at the Asian Games. Esha (579), Palak (577), and Divya TS (575), three 18-year-old athletes, won the silver medal with a combined score of 1731 points, setting an Asian Games record. China won the gold with a score of 1736. Chinese Taipei came in third with a bronze score of 1723.
Esha and Palak, who finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the qualification round, will also be eligible to win individual gold since they qualified for the eight-shooter final. Divya placed 10th but failed to cut.
Eight of the best shooters go to the finals to compete for individual glory, while the team medal winners are determined by the scores in the qualification round.
The trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha, and Rhythm Sangwan fired simultaneously to win the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event on the same day that Esha also won a silver medal in the women’s individual 25m pistol competition.
India At Asian Games 2023: How India Was Forced To Leave Out The Shooting Final
India may have missed out on a medal as a result of the Asian Games organizers’ last-minute decision to only allow one team of athletes in mixed-team shooting events since the nation was unable to field its top contenders, Rudrankksh Patil and Mehuli Ghosh, in the 10-meter mixed-air rifle discipline. Rudrankksh and Mehuli, who were scheduled to represent India’s second team in the competition, are in excellent shape after securing quota spots for the Paris Olympics. Unexpectedly, the Asian Games organizers chose to only allow one contestant from each nation to participate in the competition.
Divyansh Panwar and Ramita Jindal were chosen by the National Rifle Association of India’s (NRAI) rules, which say that only the top-ranked shooter in the discipline may be a member of the mixed team at the time of selection.
However, fourth-place finishers Divyansh and Ramita just missed out on the 10m mixed air rifle bronze medal.
Mehuli claimed that the rule change prevented her from competing in a different event. She won the women’s team silver medal in the 10m air rifle competition alongside Ramita and Ashi Chouksey.
Mehuli claimed that the level of competition in her sport is tight across the nation.
