IND W vs ENG W: India’s women’s team created history on Saturday as they registered the biggest win in the history of the Women’s Test. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. beat England by a massive 347 runs in the off-Test match played at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.
India posted a massive 428 in the first innings
Indian team batted first and laid the foundation of the win by scoring a massive total of 428 runs in the first innings. They didn’t get a great start from the openers but the middle order contributed significantly to take the team to a big score.
Batting at number three, Shubha Satheesh played a rock-solid knock of 69 off 76 balls, while she was well supported by Rodrigues, who amassed 68 off 99.
The likes of Harmanpreet Kaur (49), Yastika Bhatia (66), and Deepti Sharma (67) all chipped in with valuable contributions with the bat.
England batters succumbed to Deepti’s Spin
England’s batters succumbed to a great display of spin in the second innings. Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar picked the early wickets but it was Deepti Sharma, who stole the show with a five-wicket haul to her name. She returned with figures of 5 for 7 in 5.3 overs.
For England, Nat Sciver-Brunt scored a half-century but wickets kept falling at the other end and, thus, England were bundled out for a paltry score of 136 runs.
India didn’t enforce the follow-on and declared at 186 for 6
India chose not to enforce the follow-on and batted again. Shafali (33) and Smriti (26), once again, got started but couldn’t carry on. Ecclestone accounted for the latter’s wicket and followed that up with Yastika Bhatia’s wicket (9) as well to leave India at 77 for 3.
Charlie Dean didn’t let India build a big partnership as he accounted for wickets of Rodrigues (27) and Deepti Sharma (20) at regular intervals in the game.
Skipper, Harmanpreet Kaur, however, remained not out for 44 off 67 before India declared at 186 for 6 in 42 overs, thereby setting a 479-run target for England.
