IND vs SL 3rd ODI: The last time when Sri Lanka won an ODI series against India was back in 1997. Now, after 27 years, they have an opportunity to repeat that. After the first ODI resulted in a draw, the Island nation beat the Indian team by 32 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series.
Charith Asalanka has a 1-0 lead in the series and another win can boost the morale of this Sri Lankan team to a great extent. On the other hand, the Gautam Gambhir-Rohit Sharma era hasn’t started on a great note.
After the first ODI got tied, they lost the second game. The Indian team has no chance to win the series but would now look to level the series. The third ODI is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
India Preview
Perhaps, not a lot of people would have expected the result that has panned out so far. They would have won the first ODI but fell short. Sri Lanka produced even better performance in the next game and beat them by a significant margin.
Skipper, Rohit Sharma provided brilliant starts in both the games. He has two half-centuries in two matches. However, the middle-order has succumbed to spin twice in two games.
Experience campaigner, Virat Kohli got out cheaply twice to spin bowlers. The likes of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul failed to hit the straps. Axar Patel has shown his potential with the bat but couldn’t stay there till the end. As for your fantasy team, Rohit Sharma, Gill, and Axar Patel are some of the must-have picks.
Washington Sundar has been brilliant with the bat with four wickets to his name in two matches. Kuldeep Yadav has three wickets and is likely to continue the work on the spin-friendly track.
Sri Lanka Preview
Charith Asalanka, the skipper, has led from the front. He scored a handy 25 runs in the last game but made a rather significant impact with the ball. His two strikes in the 48th over helped the team to end the first ODI in a tie. In the second game, he returned with three wickets.
Having said that, the man who stole the show and the one who, singlehandedly, took the game away from the visitors was Jeffrey Vandersay. He ran through India’s batting unit, picking as many as six wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs.
In the first innings, Sri Lanka batted brilliantly to post a par score of 240 on the board. Avishka Fernando returned to form with a 40-run knock, while Kusal Mendis contributed 30 off 42.
The likes of Dunith Wellalage (39) and Kamindu Mendis (40) made crucial contributions as well.
IND vs SL 3rd ODI Match Prediction
Sri Lanka has been brilliant in both the games and would be riding high on confidence. They have a serious chance of winning the series and you can expect them to bring out their A-game.
Having said that, you can’t rule out this Indian team, who have no shortage of talented players. India might play an extra batter in place of Shivam Dube and despite the loss in the first game, we would still back the Indian team to win the series.
