IND vs ENG 3rd Test: During the second day of the third Test between India & England, a weird incident happened with England beginning their first innings at 5-0. On Day 2 of the third Test, R Ashwin was penalized with five runs after he ran on the protected area of the pitch. This transpired in the 102nd over of India’s innings, with the team at 358 for 7. Ashwin tried to take a run after pushing the ball into the covers but was sent back by Dhruv Jurel. Umpire Joel Wilson fined India with the penalty after discussing the matter with Ashwin. As a result, England commenced their first innings from 5-0. This penalty was imposed after a warning was issued to India in the second Test when Ravindra Jadeja was cautioned for a similar offense on the first day of play.

The penalty was enforced by ICC Law 41.14 which addresses the issue of batters causing harm to the pitch. The law stipulates that if a batter enters the protected area without any genuine reason then it is considered unfair & results in penalties. India has ended its first innings at 445-10. While England began their innings at 5-0.
Coming to India innings they were reeling at 33-3 & were in a dire situation. But then came Ravindra Jadeja & Rohit Sharma who stitched a rewarding 200-run stand to help India march towards a big total. Rohit ended their innings at 131 while Jadeja got out early on day 2 for just 112. When Jadeja & Kuldeep got dismissed it seemed like India will end up within 300 runs total. But to everyone’s amusement Jurel & Ashwin scored valuable runs. Adding to England’s woes were Bumrah & Siraj contributing with quick knocks guiding India to a mammoth 445 runs total in the first innings.
In reply, England got off to a stable start with Zak Crawley & Ollie Pope building their innings. Crawley (15) followed by Pope (39) went early but Duckett did a miracle by scoring 133 runs in just 118 balls. Currently, Duckett & Joe Root (9) are on crease & they will resume England’s innings on Day 3.
