IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Former Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik stated that Ravichandran Ashwin can come back to bat or bowl whenever he makes his comeback in the ongoing Rajkot Test and won’t have to serve the waiting period.
Ashwin picked his 500th wicket in Test cricket after dismissing Zak Crawley on day 2 of the Test match on Friday. However, later at night, the Board of Control for Cricket in India informed that Ravichandran Ashwin had pulled out of the series due to a family medical emergency.
“Ravichandran Ashwin has withdrawn from the Test squad, effective immediately due to a family medical emergency,” the BCCI stated in a media release on Friday (February 16). “In these challenging times, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team fully support Ashwin.” BCCI wrote in a statement issued on ‘X’.
As per the rules, a player is ought to spend as much time on the field as he spent off it before being allowed to bat or bowl. However, Karthik reckoned that Ashwin would be straightway allowed to bowl, claiming his case as a unique one.

MCC rule 24.2.2.3 says, He/she shall not be permitted to bowl, until having been back on the field of play for a period of time known as Penalty time as described in 24.2.3 to 24.2.7 and 24.3.
