IND vs ENG 2nd Test: Legendary fast bowler, James Anderson pocketed another record to his name as he became the oldest fast bowler to play a Test match in India. He added the record to his name on day 1 of the second Test match between India and England on Friday.
Anderson wasn’t part of the playing XI in the first Test. However, a mediocre bowling display from Mark Wood led to his inclusion in Vizag. He now achieved the massive feat at the age of 41 years and 187 days.
Anderson Breaks Rare 72-year-old Record By Lala Amarnath
Previously, the record was held by Lala Amarnath, who played his final Test match against Pakistan in Eden Garden at the age of 41 years and 92 days old. The legendary Indian cricketer held the record for a record of 72 years.
The other cricketers present in the list, alongside Anderson and Amarnath, are Ray Lindwall, Shute Banerjee, and Ghulam Guard.
Meanwhile, James Anderson also became the fifth oldest player to play a Test match in India. Zimbabwe cricketer, John Traicos, currently, holds the record at the age of 45 years and 304 days.
James Anderson bowled pretty well in the first innings of the ongoing second Test match against India. In an innings were every bowler gave away over three runs an over, James Anderson boasted of an economy of just 1.80. He also returned with a crucial wicket of Shubman Gill.
On a good batting track, England bowled pretty well as they didn’t allow anyone except Yashasvi Jaiswal to play big knocks. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals as the batters failed to convert the start into big scores.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Stood Tall Despite Falling Wickets
Skipper Rohit Sharma (14) departed early in his innings, while the likes of Shubman Gill (34) and Shreyas Iyer (27), once again, failed to make it count. Making his Test debut, Rajat Patidar played a fine knock of 32 off 72 but he would be disappointed to not have converted that.
Amidst the fall of wickets at regular intervals, there was one batter who went all guns blazing at English bowlers. Yashasvi Jaiswal held one end together and scored runs all around the ground. He went on to score his second Test century in just 6 Tests played so far.
Despite wickets falling, Jaiswal continued to score runs and took India past the 300-run mark. He has played a sensational knock of 179 runs and is still unbeaten at the crease. Meanwhile, India lost six wickets for 336 runs at the stumps on day 1 of the Test match.
IND vs ENG 2nd Test Day 1 (At Stumps) Brief Scores:
