IND vs AFG T20I: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against India, on Saturday. The three-match T20I series begins on 11th January 2023.
Afghanistan’s newly appointed T20I skipper, Ibrahim Zadran will continue to lead the side. He, recently, led the team to a 2-1 victory in the T20I series against UAE. Afghanistan’s spinner, Rashid Khan is recovering from a back surgery and thus won’t play any game in the series. However, he will travel with the team in India as they gear up for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman Named In The Squad
Mujeeb Ur Rahman missed out in the three-match T20I series against UAE but will be making his comeback against India. Mujeeb Ur Rahman made his return to the team after sorting things out with the Afghanistan Cricket Board.
He was one of the few players who demanded to be released from the central contract. The board, in reply, denied giving a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to play T20 franchise leagues along with the likes of Naveen Ul Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqui.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman has now made a return to the national side along with Naveel and Farooqui, both of whom also approached the board with a desire to play for the national team.
Afghanistan Cricket Board’s Selection Committee named a 19-member Afghanistan National Squad for the three-match T20I Series against India starting this Thursday, January 11 in Mohali, India,” ACB wrote in a press release.
“Rashid Khan, Afghanistan’s regular T20I Captain, has been included in the squad but might not feature in any game as he recovers from the back surgery he recently underwent. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Zadran, who led Afghanistan to a 2-1 series victory against the UAE in Sharjah, will continue to lead Afghanistan against India as well,” the board added.
Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli are set to make their return to the T20I team
As per a report by Sports Today, it has been learned that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to be back in India’s T20I team for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the squad but the selectors are keen to add both Rohit and Virat to India’s squad for the T20I World Cup. Several reports also suggest that Rohit Sharma will also captain the side in the T20I series against Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya will miss the series due to their respective injuries. Hardik Pandya twisted his ankle during the 2023 World Cup, while Surykumar Yadav also hurt his ankle during the recent T20I series against South Africa.
