This year’s Money in the Bank PLE saw WWE veteran John Cena announce that he is retiring next year and will soon begin his retirement tour. Cena is a 16-time WWE world champion and is tied with Ric Flair for the record of holding most world championships. Recently, Hall of Famer Ric Flair shared his opinion on this, stating that he wouldn’t mind “The Cenation Leader” breaking his record before retiring.
Flair’s opinion on Cena breaking his record
In an interview with Busted Open, Flair was asked if he would have a problem with Cena breaking his record. The Nature Boy responded by saying, “If they do it with John, I have no problem. I’d be the first one to hit the ring and shake his hand. They are meant to be broken.”
Praising the 47-year-old WWE superstar, Flair stated that Cena is one of the greatest people he knows on a personal level. Ric’s daughter, Charlotte Flair, who is currently on a hiatus due to injury, is not far away from breaking the record. In her illustrious WWE career, Charlotte has won the women’s championships fourteen times and is only two behind her father’s world title record.
Ric wants his daughter to break the record
While talking about his daughter, Ric said that in an ideal world, he would want his daughter to break that amazing feat. According to Flair, if Charlotte breaks his record, it would be one of the greatest things ever.
The WWE legend recalled his conversation with the 14-time women’s world champion about this and revealed that his daughter did not like it when comparisons were made between the father-daughter duo and their respective championship records. He assured his daughter by telling her that she could reach Serena Williams’ level of fame after breaking this record because it has been left unbroken for so long now.
John Cena’s farewell tour begins next year
John Cena is set to make frequent appearances in WWE starting next year and begin his retirement tour. Heading to WrestleMania 41, he is unlikely to get involved in a world championship match, assuming Cody Rhodes remains champion. After WrestleMania 41, he could win the world title for a short time, like the world heavyweight championship. This could be a great sendoff for Cena if he wins the title one last time and ends his career on a high note, holding the record for winning most world titles.
