Jaron Ennis defeated David Avanesyan on Saturday night by TKO at the end of the fifth round and defended his IBF welterweight title. Ennis was fighting for the first time in over a year and did take some blows from his opponents, but eventually he came on top in the end. During the post-fight interview, the 27-year-old IBF champion expressed his eagerness for a bout with Crawford. He stated that it is what he wants–big names like Terence Crawford.
Crawford seems unfazed by Ennis’ eagerness for a clash
Jaron’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was quick to praise his fighter. “The future for ‘Boots’ Ennis is the future of boxing. I think he beats everyone. Ennis is a special fighter that needs to be tested against the best in the world.” wrote Hearn.
In response to this, the former undisputed welterweight world champion Terence Crawford expressed his thoughts on twitter/X and wrote, “World class fighter now hun? The double standards are crazy!!! @EddieHearn you talk good.”
Despite one fan’s claim that Bud would not fight Boots, Crawford, who is a top pound-for-pound fighter, appeared unfazed by the challenge.
Alalshikh wants to see the Ennis vs Crawford matchup
The influential figure in international boxing, Turki Alalshikh, also expressed his praise for Jaron Ennis’ recent performance. Alalshikh is the prominent force behind Saudi Arabia’s major role in global boxing. He is known for putting on top-level bouts that involve elite fighters. Following Jaron’s outstanding win, Alalshikh took to social media to share his thoughts and revealed that he contacted “Boots” and Eddie Hearn to congratulate them on their win and would love to see Ennis facing off Crawford at 154 soon.
The clash would take place in the super-welterweight division. The potential fight is definitely generating a lot of excitement among boxing fans, especially considering Crawford’s upcoming bout for the WBC junior middleweight world title against Israil Madrimov next month. If “Bud” wins in his upcoming clash, a matchup with Ennis seems likely to be finalized. In addition, Crawford has also been linked with Saul Alvarez for a catchweight fight, which is another highly anticipated clash.
