The recently released Netflix documentary named “Mr. McMahon” has revealed many things behind the scenes of WWE. The showmakers interviewed many people who have worked backstage for years. One of them is Vince McMahon’s daughter, Stephanie McMahon. Her on-air personality is different from her in real life. Stephanie has mostly played a heel character in WWE and has appeared as a problematic woman in WWE storylines. However, in real life, she is quite different.
Stephanie about her heel characters
In the “Mr. McMahon” docuseries, Stephanie opened up about becoming a heel in WWE at the behest of her father, Vince McMahon. The former WWE chairwoman stated that she kept doing the heel character because the WWE Universe accepted her in that role and loved her for it.
“I have a big smile on my face because that means the audience is participating. Anytime the audience is participating, they are loving what it is you’re doing. Steph became this great heel. She was willing to do anything. She has always been, ‘Whatever you want, dad.’ She knows what I’m trying to do,” said Stephanie McMahon.
Stephanie refused this storyline from Vince
Stephanie further explained that early in her career she was always ready to do whatever her father asked her to do. “When I was younger in my career, I was always ready to do whatever he wanted. I look back on some of the stuff I did and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe I did that.’” said Stephanie. She was also asked if she found it weird that her father was asking her to do such things. Steph stated that she found it a little weird sometimes, but then she also knew it was part of the business.

However, Stephanie once refused Vince McMahon when he asked her to be part of an incest storyline in which Stephanie would be found to be pregnant with Vince’s child. She did not talk about this in the docuseries and clearly said, “We won’t talk about the stories I denied,” but she admitted it in another interview, saying that this was the only time she refused her father’s storyline proposal.
Stephanie McMahon resigned as WWE chairwoman and co-CEO after Vince came out of retirement and took over as chairman of WWE in January 2023. Since then, she has been seen in WWE only once and that was on Day 2 of WrestleMania 40.
