NBA Star Curry: Before becoming one of the greats, Stephen Curry, a four-time NBA champion with the Golden State Warriors, said to Sky Sports that he “failed the eye test” when he was a young child attempting to succeed in the sport.
Over the past ten or so years, the 35-year-old has become one of the most recognisable players in the NBA. He holds the record for most career free throws made in an NBA regular season with 402 in 2016, surpassing his own previous record of 286. He also has the highest career free-throw percentage in the history of the NBA (91.0%).
In addition to winning NBA titles in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022, he was voted the league MVP in both of those years. He is an NBA All-Star ten times.
However, his ascent to the top was not an easy one. Curry has admitted that he would not have succeeded if it weren’t for his resilience in the face of setbacks.
“It’s really cool to talk about the origins of my basketball career,” he stated. “My blood is basketball. Due to my dad’s (16 years) NBA career, there was some internal dispute over the involvement of basketball in the family company.
“I wasn’t very good at passing the eye exam since I was small when I was nine years old and just starting out in organised basketball.
“I was always the youngest player on the team whether I joined a gym or played on a team.
“I’ve always had this underappreciated attitude from the start. I felt I could compete with the greatest if I ever got the chance, but there were a lot of complaints coming up about my game.
“I was informed by many people what I was incapable of doing or becoming.
“There were a lot of boundaries in my perception of who I was as a basketball player and what others thought of me, and I had to sort of embrace all of that from nine years old to middle school basketball to high school basketball.
I was truly a late bloomer and didn’t receive many scholarship offers or college recruiting letters from the major Division One college basketball programmes. I kind of carried that underappreciated spirit with me the entire time.
“I eventually received an offer from Davidson College, a tiny liberal arts college in North Carolina with around 1900 students at the time. All I needed was a little window of opportunity and a coach who had faith in me.”
“After that, the rest is history. Following my calling as a basketball player and cultivating a strong work ethic that I still use today.
Curry established Underrated Golf last year with the goal of giving young golfers—who would not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend national events—equity, access, and opportunities.
The 2024 season of the Underrated Golf Tour will begin in the UK at Walton Heath Golf Course in Tadworth. The tour consists of four regional stops at some of the most prominent courses in the US.

NBA Star Curry – “A delusional impulse”
Curry responds that he thinks his motivation to keep trying to seek his ideal job has always been there when asked where it comes from.
He told Sky Sports, “I had it, but it was confirmed by the people who observed how I carried myself.”
“You might certainly describe it as occasionally a little deluded. I was the skinny kid who felt like I belonged, trying to play with the competition that was above me and protect the greatest player on the court.
“However, it was reinforced by others in my immediate vicinity who advised me to keep going, have faith in my abilities, and adopt the attitude of seizing every chance to play basketball.
“I’ve kept that with me. The challenging aspect at this point is that, after a little period of success, it’s easy to lose that energy and perspective. In order to keep it, I’ve had to constantly remind myself of my past and my progress.
“Observing the youth of tomorrow, whom I hope to inspire, influence, and assist create opportunities for via my off-court endeavours.
“My style of gameplay seems friendly and welcoming to me. I still appear like the tiniest man there, even if you see me play against players who are already in the NBA, but I strive to perform much above my size.
“Individuals have inclined toward the manner in which I play, and have ideally been propelled by it,” said NBA star Curry.
