The Ukrainian Boxer Oleksandr Usyk has established himself as a strong force against British boxers, scoring wins over five Brits in the last six years. His notable record includes winning the heavyweight titles from Anthony Joshua and successfully defending them against Daniel Dubois. This record gives Usyk a unique perspective on the clash between Joshua and Dubois scheduled for September 21 at Wembley Stadium.
Usyk scored two consecutive wins over Joshua and both victories were dominant ones. He then scored a stoppage win against Dubois. More recently, “The Cat” regained his fourth and final heavyweight title from Tyson Fury, becoming the first undisputed champion in the Division in two and a half decades.
Usyk about comparison between Joshua and Dubois
In an interview with Boxing News, Oleksandr shared his thoughts on the comparison between Joshua and Dubois. The Ukrainian stated that he respects Daniel Dubois and wishes him all the best,and also wished for him to become the champion someday. But he said that there is no way to compare him with Joshua because both are completely different fighters with different skills and styles.
“To be fair, I don’t think Dubois can reach Joshua’s level. I am sorry for saying this, but this is the truth and I’m telling it,” said Usyk.
The Ukrainian vacated his IBF title
Usyk has recently vacated his IBF title, giving Dubois the chance to become a full champion. He made this move due to a mandatory clause that would have stripped Usyk of his title. The interview was taken after his post-fight with Fury and at that time, Joshua vs. Dubois was unlikely to happen as Filip Hrgovic was expected to fight AJ.
Dubois is now set to defend his title against Joshua at Wembley on September 21. The clash is going to be a challenge for him. Joshua has seen his career rebound with stunning wins over Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou. A win against Dubois will make Joshua a three-time heavyweight champion and pave the way for a clash with the winner of the upcoming rematch between Usyk and Fury later this year.
