Hoffenheim vs Borussia Dortmund: Preview
Hoffenheim form analysis
Der Blau had a 1-2 home loss to Freiburg despite Kabak pulling a goal back. They suffered another defeat next, losing 2-3 away at Heidenheim in the cup despite late goals from Beier and Kramaric. However, Hoffenheim bounced back with an impressive 3-1 home win over Wolfsburg in the league as Beier, Brooks and Skov netted.
They followed that up with another excellent attacking display to beat Cologne 3-1 away, led by a Kramaric brace and Beier’s strike. Most recently, Hoffenheim won 2-0 away at Union Berlin thanks to goals from Kramaric and Beier.
Overall, Hoffenheim have been inconsistent but shown real attacking potential. Kramaric has led the line brilliantly, while new signing Beier looks an excellent acquisition with 4 goals already. However, defensive issues have been a concern, conceding 7 goals in their last 3 league games. If they can improve defensively, Hoffenheim’s attacking talents give them an excellent chance of a top 6 finish this term. But adding greater solidity at the back is crucial.
Borussia Dortmund form analysis
Dortmund began with a disappointing 1-1 draw away at Bochum, falling behind early before Malen’s equalizer. Defensive issues resurfaced in a nervy 2-2 home win over Heidenheim in the cup, requiring Can’s early penalty before surviving late pressure. But Dortmund bounced back with an excellent 4-2 win away at Freiburg in the league, led by Hummels’ brace.
However, they were comfortably dispatched 2-0 away at PSG in the Champions League group stage. Most recently though, Dortmund returned to winning ways by edging past Wolfsburg 1-0 at home thanks to Reus’ second half strike.
Overall, it’s been an up and down start for Dortmund as Edin Terzic integrates their new signings. They’ve showcased their attacking threat at times, but defensive vulnerabilities remain an issue. The comeback win at Freiburg demonstrated Dortmund’s resilience and quality, but PSG exploited their weaknesses. If Dortmund are more solid at the back, they still have the firepower to challenge Bayern this term. But improving concentration and cutting out individual errors is crucial.
