Hoffenheim vs Bochum: Preview
Hoffenheim form analysis
TSG Hoffenheim’s form has been inconsistent recently under manager Andre Breitenreiter, registering two wins, two draws and a defeat across their last five Bundesliga matches. They kicked off this run by claiming an impressive 3-2 away win at top four hopefuls Stuttgart on October 28th, with goals from Georginio Promel, Wout Weghorst and Robert Skov. However, an entertaining 3-3 draw promptly followed at home against Bayer Leverkusen, throwing away a lead three times despite strikes from Angelo Stach and Weghorst.
Hoffenheim then consolidated with back-to-back draws away at Augsburg and at home against Mainz, with Weghorst again netting against Augsburg before Skov equalised after conceding first against Mainz. Most recently on December 2nd, Hoffenheim came unstuck in a 2-1 defeat away at Borussia Monchengladbach, with Weghorst’s leveller proving a mere consolation. Overall Hoffenheim have struggled defensively, keeping just one clean sheet across this run. An area Breitenreiter must address if they are to sustain a European push this term.
Bochum form analysis
After a difficult opening to the campaign, Bochum’s form has improved recently with two wins, two draws and one defeat across their last five games. The upturn began with a six-goal thriller against Mainz on October 28th.Kevin Stoger’s penalty and Konstantinos Stafylidis own goal securing a battling 2-2 draw after twice leading. An impressive 2-1 away Cup victory at Darmstadt promptly followed as Takuma Asano netted both goals.
Bochum then consolidated with a 1-1 home draw against FC Cologne. On November 11th as Lucas Daschner cancelled out Davie Selke’s second half equaliser. Their unbeaten run stretched to four games after a goalless draw away at Heidenheim on November 26th. Hopes of five games without defeat ended in a nine-goal thriller against Wolfsburg. But Asano, Erhan Masovic and Cristian Gamboa all netted. As Bochum claimed an impressive 3-1 home win to provide further optimism they can avoid the drop under Thomas Letsch.
