Hobart Hurricanes Preview
After losing their first two matches, the Hurricanes finally won the first clash of the season against Adelaide Strikers. In a match reduced to eight overs a side, Hobart chased a target of 75 with an over & three wickets to spare. That spectacular win has given the team a much-needed boost after two humiliating losses.
Captain Elyse Villani who has played a valuable knock of unbeaten 39 off 24 balls is the leading run-scorer with 78 runs in 3 innings at a strike rate of 156. Naomi Stalenberg didn’t get off to bat in the last fixture but she has been impressive by scoring 61 runs in 2 innings at a strike rate of 160.52. Hobart has a reliable core of zealous batters with Villani, Lizelle Lee, Heather Graham, Nicola Carey, and Bryony Smith collectively anchoring their batting lineup. We expect some crucial runs from Graham & Lee in the batting order.
On the bowling front, Hobart will depend on spinner Molly Strano & experienced seamer Shabnim Ismail to deliver with the ball. Strano has been among the wickets this season and has gotten good help from Graham and Carey, who a lot of the key overs too.
Hobart Hurricanes Predicted Playing XI:
Lizelle Lee (wk), Elyse Villani (c), Bryony Smith, Heather Graham, Ruth Johnston, Naomi Stalenberg, Tabatha Saville, Hayley Silver-holmes, Molly Strano, Amy Smith, Shabnim Ismail
Sydney Thunder Preview
Sydney Thunder Women is having a good run this season as they have won two matches on a trot by 42 runs against Sydney Sixers Women in their season opener and by 8 wickets against Melbourne Renegades Women in their previous match. In this match against Renegades, Sydney had a target to chase 148 at the SCG. While Chamari Athapaththu’s wonderful knock of 80 from 54 deliveries helped them polish off those runs in just 17.2 overs.
Athapaththu is their standout overseas player & they expect Thunder to deliver with the bat. She has been in great form in limited over format & is expected to have a great year in WBBL 2023. Phoebe Litchfield (183 runs in the last 10 matches at a strike rate of 130.71) is another batter worth watching out for. She is having a blasting 2023 edition & it seems like she will have a great impact on Thunders’.
On the bowling front, Athapaththu and Heather Knight are doing a solid job with the spin duties, but the team needs their seamers to fire and take more wickets upfront. Kapp & Samantha did a fabulous job in their last fixture by picking one wicket each while conceding less than 7 runs per over. They will hope to continue the good work.
Sydney Thunder Predicted Playing XI:
Tahlia Wilson (wk), Chamari Athapaththu, Phoebe Litchfield, Heather Knight (c), Marizanne Kapp, Anika Learoyd, Olivia Porter, Claire Moore, Hannah Darlington, Samantha Bates, Ebony Hoskin
HH W vs ST W PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS
The pitch at Aurora is a balanced one providing assistance to batters & seamers. Pacers have dominated this track & enjoy bounce & seam movement to get going. However, we have seen that the batters could play shots easily & score big. The weather in Launceston will be cloudy with a couple of showers expected at some point during the day time.
Toss: To Bowl
Aurora usually favors the team batting first. Out of 20 T20 games including the games in the previous season, 12 have been won by the team batting first. Thus the team winning the toss should opt to bat first. But with the weather being cloudy & chasing a good option the team winning the toss should opt to bowl first.
HH W vs ST W Winning Prediction
Hobart Hurricanes have won three of the last five matches against Sydney Thunder. However, the Thunder have a better overall record against them with a 10-5 head-to-head record. Thunder started brilliantly 2023 edition & looked like a well-settled team. On the other hand, Hurricanes will hope to light up fire in the batting order. They have a more than decent bowling lineup & need batters to step up if they want to win this match. Sydney Thunder has an edge over Hurricanes & will win this match.
Sydney Thunder will win this clash against Hobart Hurricanes.
