Heidenheim vs Hoffenheim: Preview
Heidenheim form analysis
1. FC Heidenheim struggled to get a foothold in their top flight debut and conceded twice in the first half. They failed to seriously test the Wolfsburg defense aside from a couple of blocked shots. In attack Beck and Kleindienst were isolated and lacked service. The midfield was overrun at times as Wolfsburg dominated. Overall a disappointing performance from Heidenheim who will need to improve quickly.
Let us summarize Heidenheim’s last four league results in the 2nd division. In their first match against Magdeburg, they were unable to score and had to settle for a 0-0 draw. Then against Paderborn, they trailed 1-0 and 1-1 but fought back to take the lead through Thomalla and Muslija. However Paderborn equalized through Pieringer before Kleindienst scored the winner.
Their next match against Sandhausen was a tighter 1-0 win, with Beste scoring the only goal in the 68th minute.
Their most recent match saw them come from behind twice against Jahn Regensburg. Regensburg led through two Owusu goals but Saller scored an own goal to make it 2-1. Beste then equalized from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time before Kleindienst scored the winner in the 90th minute to complete another comeback victory.
Hoffenheim form analysis
Last week, Hoffenheim started brightly and created some early chances through Kramaric and Stiller. However, they fell behind to an own goal before halftime. After the break, Hoffenheim were more threatening with Kabak scoring from a corner to equalize. Kramaric tried to spark attacks and Bülter went close late on but they couldn’t find a winner. Defensively Hoffenheim were opened up too easily at times. It was a mixed performance and they will be disappointed to lose at home.
Hoffenheim were in good form last season, winning three of their last four matches in the Bundesliga. They defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 at home with goals from Baumgartner, Kramaric from the penalty spot, and Bebou. However, they lost 2-1 away to Wolfsburg despite a late own goal.
Their home form has been strong, beating Union Berlin 4-2 with two goals from Kramaric and one each from Bebou and Dabbur. They took the lead in all three of these home wins.
They then grabbed a 1-1 draw against Stuttgart.
In summary, Hoffenheim have shown good attacking play at home but their defense has leaked goals in two of the last three games. They will be hoping to shore things up at the back while continuing to find the net going forward
