Hearts vs Hibernian: Preview
Hearts form analysis
Heart of Midlothian had been relatively sturdy defensively but a recent demolition at Rangers exposed issues at the back. On February 24th, Hearts were trounced 5-0 away at Rangers in a completely overmatched performance. Earlier on February 17th though, Hearts earned a solid 2-0 home win over Motherwell powered by goals from the prolific Shankland and late substitute Vargas. Prior to that on February 8th, Hearts grinded out a 1-0 away win at St. Johnstone thanks to a second half Shankland winner.
On February 3rd, Hearts stormed back dramatically for a 3-2 away win at Dundee with late heroics from Shankland powering the comeback. Hearts’ best recent performance came in a 2-0 home win over Aberdeen on January 27th with goals from Grant and Shankland. Overall, Hearts had shown resilience. The thrashing at Rangers exposed vulnerabilities, especially defensively, that will need addressing for Hearts to maintain form.
Hibernian form analysis
Hibernian has mixed occasional goal-scoring displays with defensive lapses and struggles recently. On February 24th, Hibernian held on to defeat Dundee 2-1 at home after McCowan erased their lead but Maolida secured the late winner. Earlier on February 17th though, Hibernian blew a lead in drawing 2-2 away at Aberdeen, conceding an equalizer from Marcondes after goals from Boyle and McGrath. Prior to that on February 8th, Hibernian fell 2-1 at home to Celtic, leveling through Levitt but conceding late to Idah’s brace.
On February 3rd, Hibernian was surprisingly hammered 3-0 at St. Mirren in a sloppy performance at both ends. Hibernian’s best recent performance came in a 2-2 away draw at Kilmarnock on January 27th, powered by late goals from Newell and Maolida to secure a point after defensive blunders. So Hibernian has shown some attacking verve but prone defending has undermined it too often. Tighter organization and consistency defensively will be key moving forward.
