Bangladesh Cricket Head Coach Hathurusingha Commits to Contract Until 2025 Champions Trophy
Chandika Hathurusingha, the head coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team, has expressed his desire to continue in his role until the 2025 Champions Trophy, as per his current contract. However, he has also stated that he is willing to step down if the new board does not wish to retain his services. The uncertainty surrounding Hathurusingha’s future comes in the wake of changes in the government and the board structure, with BCB president Nazmul Hasan stepping down from his position.
“I don’t know what’s happening back home. I have signed a contract till whatever the date. I am looking forward to serve the term,” Hathurusingha told reporters in Islamabad. “If the board changes and the new people want to make a change, I am okay with that. If they want to continue with me, I am happy to continue.”
Preparation for Test Series in Pakistan
Hathurusingha expressed his gratitude towards the Pakistan Cricket Board for accommodating the Bangladeshi team’s early arrival for the upcoming two-match Test series. The team had a three-day camp in Lahore before moving to Islamabad for the series, which is set to commence on August 21 in Rawalpindi.
“The Lahore facilities are excellent. We had good three days of practice. In terms of preparation, we are very happy. In terms of mood, we are very much looking forward to the challenge,” Hathurusingha said.
He also commented on the pitch conditions, noting that the Pindi pitch seems more favorable for fast bowling and batting. With the inclusion of talented all-rounders like Shakib Al Hasan and Miraz, Hathurusingha believes that the team is well-prepared for the series.
Batting Concerns and Optimism for Pakistan Conditions
While acknowledging batting as a concern for the team, especially on result-oriented pitches back home, Hathurusingha expressed hope that the conditions in Pakistan will be more conducive for his batters.
“We play in result-oriented wickets back home. Sometimes 250 is a winning score in those pitches. Obviously when you play on these pitches, the batters have a tough time. I hope the pitches in Pakistan generally favor batting. It is a good contest between bat and ball. We will show better result on these pitches,” he stated.
Updates on Players and Support Staff
Hathurusingha provided updates on key players like Shakib Al Hasan, mentioning that the all-rounder has improved after addressing an eye problem. He also praised the addition of Mushtaq Ahmed to the coaching staff as the spin consultant, highlighting his wealth of experience working with teams like England and Pakistan.
“I know Mushy. We met in 1988. He has fitted into the coaching group really well. He has a lot of experience working with England and Pakistan. He has a lot of local knowledge and experience from other parts of the world. Not just bowling, we take his advice in certain decisions,” Hathurusingha said.
As Hathurusingha and the Bangladesh team gear up for the challenging Test series in Pakistan, fans await the team’s performance with anticipation and optimism under their committed coach.

Mushtaq’s experience working with international teams brings a wealth of knowledge that can benefit Bangladesh’s spin bowlers and enhance their performance in varied conditions.

The cohesion within the squad and the mutual respect between the coaching staff and the players have fostered a positive environment conducive to growth and development.
As Bangladesh prepares to face Pakistan in the upcoming Test series, the team’s unity and resolve will be tested against a formidable opponent in their own backyard.
