Haris Rauf in Heated Exchange with Fans, PCB Considers Legal Action
Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf found himself in a heated altercation with a group of fans while in the United States for the T20 World Cup. The incident, captured on video and now circulating online, has sparked debate about fan conduct and player privacy.
Rauf, who impressed with his bowling performance in the group stages despite Pakistan’s early exit, reportedly reacted strongly to comments made by the fans. While the specifics of the exchange remain unclear, Rauf later addressed the situation on social media.
He acknowledged that public figures are open to criticism, but drew a line when it comes to his family. “It is important to show respect towards people and their families, irrespective of their professions,” Rauf stated.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is taking a strong stance against the incident. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi condemned the fans’ behavior and threatened legal action if they don’t apologize.
Rauf’s teammates have also rallied behind him. Fellow fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi called the incident “absolutely disgraceful.”
This altercation comes after Pakistan’s disappointing exit from the World Cup, where they failed to qualify for the Super Eight stage after a loss to the host nation, USA. Rauf, however, was a bright spot for Pakistan, taking seven wickets in his four matches.
During the altercation, Haris asked the hostile fan if he was Indian but the fan replied, “I’m from Pakistan.” Rauf has been criticised by Indian fans for unnecessarily bringing India in the context even when there was no apparent connection.
T20 World Cup didn’t seem a success in America but such incidents have clearly marred the image of players and fans relation in cricket world.
Despite the controversy, Rauf’s cricketing future remains bright. The 30-year-old has established himself as a key player for Pakistan and has enjoyed success in leagues like the Australian Big Bash, where he has represented the Melbourne Stars for the past five seasons.
