For a very long period following the iconic Indian skipper Kapil Dev, India lacked a true fast-bowling allrounder. But when Hardik Pandya began to play for the squad, the management’s search for a new player was finally over. He became one of the best fast-bowling all-rounders in the world thanks to his performance in all three game types, both with the bat and the ball.
Along with his individual success, Pandya has also made a strong impression with his leadership abilities, and as a result, he will serve as the vice-captain of the Indian squad at the 2018 ODI World Cup. Pandya recently said that he has a workload that is double or triple that of everyone else.
“As an all-arounder, I have a heavier workload than anyone else. I’ll continue to bowl until the team’s next batter has finished his at-bat and is on his way home. Therefore, all of my managing, pushing, and other activities take place during my practise sessions, training, or pre-camp period,” according to Pandya, who was reported by Hindustan Times.
The fast-bowling allrounder Hardik Pandya:
Pandya recently put on an incredible batting display in the Asia Cup match against Pakistan, scoring 87 runs in an outstanding innings while under duress. The Pakistani bowlers’ devastation of the top order led to the start of the innings. He was unable to bowl, though, as the game was called off due to rain. Pandya discussed his bowling and remarked that it would be pointless for him to bowl all 10 overs.
He adds, “When the game starts, it is more about what the team needs, and the managing side hits the ground running. It is more a matter of making practical decisions about how many overs are required for me. Because it serves no use for me to bowl 10 overs if they are not required, but I will bowl if they are.”
Moreover, he continues, “I have always believed that when we go as believers, when I’m standing there, yes, my ten players, my ten brothers are around me, but at the same time I’m alone. I always believed that I give myself a chance to succeed, which is by reading the game, which is by backing myself.”
