Granada vs Sevilla: Preview
Granada form analysis
They have struggled for positive results in recent La Liga matches to remain mired in the relegation zone. On November 11th they started decently by battling to a creditable 1-1 home draw with fellow strugglers Getafe despite conceding an early opener. A week later the results worsened as Granada were soundly beaten 3-1 away at high-flying Alavés. Seeking improvement, Granada hosted defending champions Real Madrid on December 2nd but were comfortably defeated 2-0 in a one-sided affair.
Returning home against Athletic Bilbao on December 12th, Granada fought hard to claim a 1-1 draw despite going behind early, equalizing via a fortunate own goal. However momentum stalled again last Friday as Granada fell 1-0 away at Celta Vigo to a solitary second half strike from Jorgen Strand Larsen. Over this spell Granada have competed in patches without getting results, struggling mainly in attack where they’ve scored just twice in five matches. Finding more consistent goal scoring threats and tightening up defensively remains key if Granada wants to move away from the drop zone in the second half of the season.
Sevilla form analysis
It has been a disastrous spell recently for struggling Sevilla. On November 12th they drew 1-1 at city rivals Real Betis in a heated derby. Equalizing late through Ivan Rakitic to claim a point. However worse results followed, as Sevilla fell 2-1 at Real Sociedad on November 26th despite Youssef En-Nesyri pulling one back. Seeking improvement, Sevilla returned home to face Villarreal on December 3rd and managed a 1-1 draw courtesy of Kike Salas’ strike, but were ultimately fortunate after being under the cosh throughout.
The losses then resumed for Julen Lopetegui’s men. Falling 1-0 away to relegation candidates Mallorca on December 10th after failing to create chances. The final straw came last Friday. As Sevilla were embarrassed 3-0 at home by Getafe in a match marred by fan protests aimed at the club’s hierarchy. Reviving fragile morale and making the side more organized and competitive again represents a huge early challenge.
