Granada vs Cadiz: Preview
Granada form analysis
The club has struggled mightily for form recently, with four losses and just one draw over their last five La Liga matches. Their most recent result was a humbling 3-0 home loss to Sevilla on December 20th. This follows a 1-0 away loss to Celta Vigo on December 16th in a match where they failed to generate many chances. Prior to that Granada earned their only point during this poor run, a 1-1 home draw with Athletic Bilbao on December 12th thanks to a fortunate own goal after going behind early.
Formulating attacking moves and converting chances has been Granada’s achilles heel, as exhibited in the two matches preceding that draw: a 2-0 loss away to Champions League holders Real Madrid on December 2nd, and a 3-1 defeat away to Alavés on November 25th where they conceded three before scoring a late consolation penalty. Overall, Granada’s five match winless run has shown a lack of resilience and attacking threat. If they continue dropping points at such an alarming rate, they could quickly be embroiled in a relegation scrap. Urgent improvements particularly in midfield creativity and defensive solidity need to occur for Granada to turn their form around.
Cadiz form analysis
Cádiz has shown signs of improvement in their form recently, with two draws, a win, and two losses over their last five matches in La Liga play. Their most recent result was a gritty 0-0 home draw against Real Sociedad on December 21st. This follows a 1-1 away draw at Las Palmas on December 17th where Chris Ramos equalized late to snatch a point after falling behind early. Prior to that, Cádiz earned a credible 1-1 home draw against Osasuna on December 10th with Roger netting their goal before conceding an equalizer from the penalty spot.
Sandwiched between those draws was a disappointing 2-1 loss away at third division side Arandina in the Copa del Rey on December 7th. Cádiz had begun this run with a solid 1-1 away draw at Celta Vigo on December 5th thanks to an early goal from Ramos. So while Cádiz has shown defensive improvement and grit to battle back in games. They are still struggling to create chances and dominate play for long stretches. Addressing these attacking issues will be paramount as they try to climb out of the relegation zone.
