Australian Star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell scripted history by scoring a blistering ODI century in just 40 balls against the Netherlands to register the fastest ton in ODI World Cup history. The Arun Jaitley stadium got lit with maximums as Maxwell displayed his power-hitting skills to register the fastest century in ODI history. By doing so he surpassed Aiden Markram who was holding the title after registering a century in just 49 balls earlier in World Cup 2023.
Notably, Maxwell’s 49-ball 100 is also the fourth-fastest century in ODIs. The holder of the fastest century title is AB De Villiers who has scored a century in just 31 balls against West Indies in 2015. Maxwell’s effort is also the fastest century in ODIs by an Australian.
“Feels pretty good, I was not feeling well, wasn’t expecting much today, cleared my head. The situation when Davey and Greeny got out, had to rein myself in,” Maxwell said after his supreme effort.

David Warner scored a second consecutive ton in ODI World Cup 2023 which powered Australia to 399-8 against the Netherlands on Wednesday. Maxwell’s 106 off 44 balls helped to outclass Netherlands which has just scored a ton in 40 balls improving Africa’s Aiden Markram’s record who has just smashed 106 runs off 49 balls against Sri Lanka at the same ground here on October 7.
In his lightning innings, Maxwell has scored nine fours & eight sixes to reach with his knock. Maxwell reached the 50-run mark in just 27 balls in the 47th over. He then took only 13 more balls to reach the triple-figure mark in the 47th over. The likes of Paul Van Meekeren, De Leede & van Beek were the receiver of Maxwell’s fiery knock.
Earlier the fixture began with Australia winning the toss & opting to bat first. Opener Warner scored 104 runs off 93 balls while Smith returned with figures of 71 off 68 balls. They also got valuable support from Labuschagne who scored 62 off 47 balls. For the Netherlands, Logan van Beek (4/74) and Bas de Leede (2/115) shared six wickets between them.
