Girona vs Celta Vigo: Preview
Girona form analysis
Gironistes’ recent La Liga matches have been a rollercoaster ride, mixing high scoring thrillers with disappointing defeats. They started this spell with an eight-goal thriller at home against Mallorca, winning 5-3 thanks to hat-tricks from Dovbyk and Herrera. Girona then earned a superb 1-2 away win at Villarreal thanks to goals from Dovbyk and Eric Garcia. However, they were brought back down to earth with a 0-3 home loss to Real Madrid, outclassed from start to finish. Girona returned to winning ways with a hard fought 0-1 away victory at Cadiz courtesy of Aleix Garcia’s strike. Most recently though, defensive issues resurfaced as they edged a seven goal thriller 5-2 against Almeria.
Overall, Girona have shown they can trouble any team with their attacking talents like Herrera and Dovbyk impressing. But they remain far too open defensively, conceding 11 goals in their last three games alone. Fixing this issue might land them in an unlikely european spot towards the end of this season.
Celta Vigo form analysis
Celta Vigo’s recent La Liga form has been inconsistent, mixing some encouraging attacking displays with heavy defeats. They started brightly, twice leading at Camp Nou before collapsing late on in a 2-3 loss to Barcelona. A 1-1 home draw with Alaves came next as an own goal gave them the lead before Samu levelled. However, Celta suffered a 1-2 away cup defeat to Las Palmas despite Douvikas putting them ahead. They returned to league action with a 2-2 home draw against Getafe thanks to goals from Bamba and Strand Larsen. Most recently though, Celta were comfortably beaten 0-3 at home by Atletico as Griezmann’s hat-trick sank them.
Overall, Celta have shown attacking threat thanks to the likes of Strand Larsen, but remain prone to defensive lapses. Taking leads against Barcelona and Las Palmas only to lose highlighted issues seeing out games.
