Bonaventura said, “I’m pleased with my year’s start. However, the success of the entire club means that things are going well for individuals as well. I’m overjoyed. I’m pleased with the staff and my current personal situation.”
With his fourth league goal in eight games, the 34-year-old moved Fiorentina up to the fourth position, passing champions Napoli, whose championship defense has struggled under Scudetto winner Rudi Garcia.
While Napoli is seven points down and received jeers following their second league loss, Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina are only four points off the top and tied with arch-rivals Juventus.
“Disappointment and annoyance. It’s a poor outcome. When you lose at home like this, giving away just four fouls all match, there’s something not normal going on, said Garcia, who lamented his team’s lack of aggression.
In the seventh minute, Josip Brekalo’s tight-range shot between Alex Meret’s knees gave Fiorentina the lead.
A terrible backpass from Fabiano Parisi allowed Victor Osimhen to seize on the ball and be pulled down by Fiorentina custodian Pietro Terracciano just as the away team appeared to be taking the lead at halftime.
After Jonathan Ikone for Fiorentina had hit the post, Osimhen stepped up and slammed home the penalty, and just before the hour mark, the Nigerian attacker had to be stopped by Terracciano after Michael Kayode unintentionally passed him clean through on goal.
However, Bonaventura was in the right spot at the right time when Mathias Olivera deflected Alfred Duncan’s heavy first touch on the outside of the box, and while Napoli advanced, substitute Nicolas Gonzalez clinched a significant victory on the break late in stoppage time.
Romelu Lukaku extended his impressive start to life in a Roma jersey by scoring twice in a 4-1 victory over bottom-of-the-table Cagliari in Serie A, bringing his career total of goals across all competitions to seven.
Lukaku of Belgium gave Roma a two-goal lead in the 20th minute, only seconds after Houssem Aouar had put the visitors ahead of a Cagliari squad that had yet to win since being promoted.
And seven minutes after Andrea Belotti had scored a third goal, Roma, who are now in 10th place with 11 points, were able to easily win in Sardinia thanks to his fifth league goal of the year.
Even though Roma’s patchy performance raised rumors that Jose Mourinho may be fired, Lukaku had an immediate impression after joining on loan from Chelsea after the summer transfer season.
“I work in this field. I had a job during the summer. “People talk about me but I don’t talk, I show on the pitch what I can do,” Lukaku said to DAZN.
Their third straight win on Sunday was their first away triumph in Italy’s top division in six months, but it wasn’t all good news as Paulo Dybala suffered a knee injury five minutes before halftime as a result of a strong push from Matteo Prati.
“Paulo is not optimistic and that means I am not optimistic,” Mourinho stated.
After Matias Vecino’s late goal gave Lazio a 3-2 victory over sixth-placed Atalanta, Lazio moved into 13th position, one point behind their local rivals Roma.
In the 83rd minute of the game in Rome, Uruguayan midfielder Vecino scored his second goal in as many games after also scoring in the Champions League victory against Celtic on Wednesday. He did so after being fouled by Valentin Castellanos.
