Getafe vs Sevilla: Preview
Getafe form analysis
Geta come into the new year off the back of a poor run of form, with no wins in their last three league matches. Their most recent result was a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Rayo Vallecano either side of halftime courtesy of a Sergio Camello brace. Prior to that, Getafe produced a thrilling comeback to earn a 3-3 draw away to Atletico Madrid. Borja Mayoral netting twice including a last minute penalty equalizer after going 3-1 down.
That fighting spirit was also on show two weeks before when they upset Sevilla 3-0 away from home, again thanks largely to Mayoral’s contributions. Sandwiched in between those exciting draws was a hard fought 1-0 home win over Valencia. Sealed by another Mayoral winner late on. However, Getafe’s best recent performance arguably came in a poor 2-0 away loss to Las Palmas. They finished the game with 9 men after seeing red twice in the second half. On the whole, Getafe have shown endeavor but lacked defensive discipline and consistency in their recent matches. Addressing these areas should be the main priority going into the second half of the campaign.
Sevilla form analysis
Sevilla come into the new year in very poor form, without a win in their last four league matches. Their most recent result was a damaging 2-3 home loss to struggling Alaves. They battled back from 2-0 down through Rafa Mir and Lucas Ocampos to make it 2-2, only to concede a 90th minute winner to Ruben Duarte. The week before that, they fell to a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Athletic Bilbao courtesy of goals from Mikel Vesga and Aitor Paredes.
Prior to that narrow reverse, Sevilla produced an uninspired 1-0 away loss to title chasing Atletico Madrid just before Christmas. Their best recent performance arguably came in a comfortable 3-0 win away to relegation threatened Granada thanks to goals from Adrià Pedrosa, Lucas Ocampos and Sergio Ramos. However, the manager will be deeply concerned by his side’s lack of creativity and cutting edge in their last three games, as well as some uncharacteristically fragile defending. Sevilla languishing dangerously near the relegation zone. The manager needs to quickly rectify these issues if they are to revive themselves in the second half of the campaign.
