New Zealand Women’s Cricket Star Georgia Plimmer Sidelined with Injury
New Zealand Women’s cricket suffered a blow as opener Georgia Plimmer was ruled out of action for the rest of the year due to a bone stress reaction in her groin. Plimmer, who was the top scorer for New Zealand in the recent T20 Women’s World Cup, experienced pain in her left hip joint during the ODI series in India last month.
Following a subsequent MRI scan and assessment by a specialist in New Zealand, it was confirmed that Plimmer would need about six weeks of rest and rehab to recover from the injury. This unfortunate development means that Plimmer will miss the upcoming home ODI series against Australia and the subsequent domestic white-ball season.
Disappointment for New Zealand Cricket
Head coach Ben Sawyer expressed his disappointment over Plimmer’s injury, stating, “We’re really gutted for this to happen to Georgia when she’s at the top of her game. She’s certainly a loss for us heading into an important series against Australia. After her recent success at the World Cup and in India, it’s disappointing she won’t be able to continue that form for the Wellington Blaze and against Australia next month.”
Plimmer’s recent performances have been impressive, with her scoring 105 runs in the three ODIs in India that followed New Zealand’s T20 World Cup victory in the UAE. During the T20 World Cup, she was a standout performer, finishing as her team’s joint-leading run-scorer alongside Suzie Bates with 150 runs in six innings at a strike-rate of 119.04.
Recovery and Return to Form
Despite the setback, Plimmer remains determined to rehabilitate well and make a swift return to the field. She is set to begin a progressive return to high-speed running in January, with hopes of regaining her form and fitness in time for future competitions.
New Zealand Cricket and fans alike are wishing Georgia Plimmer a smooth recovery and are eagerly anticipating her return to the field. Her absence will undoubtedly be felt, but her potential comeback promises to be a moment of celebration for women’s cricket in New Zealand.
Stay tuned for updates on Georgia Plimmer’s recovery and her journey back to the pitch as she aims to continue her stellar performances and contribute to New Zealand’s cricket success.
