Genoa vs Napoli: Preview
Genoa form analysis
Vecchio Balordo were promoted from the Serie B after finishing 2nd in the league last season. Genoa began this period with a disappointing 1-4 home loss to Fiorentina, conceding 4 times in the first half including an 11 minute double salvo. Biraschi’s late consolation provided little consolation.
However, they bounced back with an impressive 0-1 away win at Lazio thanks to Retegui’s first half strike. It was an outstanding result against tough opposition.
In their most recent game though, Genoa’s limitations returned as they suffered a narrow 0-1 home loss to Torino after conceding late to Radonjic. It was an underwhelming display.
Overall, it’s been an up and down start for Genoa as they target an immediate Serie A return following last season’s relegation. Staying focused and organized for 90 minutes is the next step in their development following the Fiorentina thrashing. But beating Lazio demonstrated their potential.
Napoli form analysis
Napoli began their title defense with a hard-fought 1-3 away win at Frosinone in the season opener, thanks to two second half goals from Osimhen after initially going behind.
They built on this with an accomplished 2-0 home victory over Sassuolo in the league courtesy of another Osimhen penalty and a strike from Di Lorenzo. It maintained their perfect start under Luciano Spalletti.
However, Napoli then suffered their first defeat of the season in a tight 1-2 loss at home to Lazio. Despite Zielinski equalizing, a Kamada goal saw the visitors claim the points and end Napoli’s winning run.
Overall, it’s been a positive but slightly inconsistent start to Napoli’s season as they bid to win their first Scudetto since 1990. Their main focus will be tightening up defensively and seeing out leads better after letting Lazio come from behind to win last time out. But the attacking form of Osimhen has been outstanding.
