Fulham vs Burnley: Preview
Fulham form analysis
The Cottagers have produced several eye-catching performances during this excellent run of results to emerge as surprise top four contenders this term. On November 28th at home, Fulham beat Wolves in a five-goal thriller by 3-2 thanks chiefly to two Willian penalties along with Iwobi’s early opener before just holding off the visitors’ late fightback. In an even more dramatic match away at Liverpool four days later, Fulham twice came from behind through Wilson and De Cordova-Reid before succumbing late on in a thrilling 3-4 defeat.
Quickly putting that disappointment behind them, rampant Fulham thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 at home in their next match courtesy of a Jimenez brace and further goals from Iwobi, returning hero Cairney and Willian on December 7th. Fulham followed that up with another five-star display in dismantling West Ham 5-0 four days later as Jimenez, Willian and defender Adarabioyo all scored before Wilson and substitute Carlos Vinicius rounded it off perfectly. However, Fulham’s marathon run of wins ended away at high-flying Newcastle on December 16th, well beaten 0-3 after Jimenez saw red. Overall Marco Silva has his entertainers firing on all cylinders in attack, but shoring up obvious defensive weaknesses could take them even higher.
Burnley form analysis
Burnley came into this run of fixtures pushing hard for Premier League survival after last season’s comfortable promotion. However, on November 25th at home Burnley suffered late heartbreak in a 1-2 defeat to West Ham after taking an early lead through Rodriguez’s penalty before falling victim to Souček’s injury time winner. Bouncing back impressively, rampant Burnley thrashed survival hopefuls Sheffield United 5-0 in their next match on December 2nd thanks to a Rodriguez opener and further strikes from Bruun Larsen, Amdouni, Koleosho and Brownhill.
Burnley were brought back down to earth away at Wolves four days later, succumbing to a narrow 0-1 defeat courtesy of Hwang Hee-Chan’s first half effort. They then battled back from a goal down to claim a creditable 1-1 draw away at Brighton on December 9th after young summer signing Odobert opened the scoring before Adingra levelled. However, Burnley came unstuck at home to struggling Everton in their last match, deservedly beaten 0-2 after an uncharacteristically flat display with Keane and Onana on target. Overall it’s been a nightmare of a season for Burnley as there is little to keep their survival hopes alive and kicking.
