Frosinone vs Cagliari: Preview
Frosinone form analysis
I Canarini come into the new year with three straight heavy losses, conceding thirteen goals to slip close to the Serie A relegation zone after an inconsistent first half of the campaign. Their most recent result was a humbling 5-0 home thrashing by Champions League chasing Atalanta in the Coppa Italia Round of 16. That hiding came on the back of a weak 3-1 away defeat to Lazio in their final game of 2023. Substitute Mohammed Soule’s contentious second half penalty their only consolation after falling three behind to goals from Valentine Castellanos, Gustav Isaksen and Patric.
Two weeks prior, Frosinone suffered another 3-1 reverse at home to mid-table Monza despite teenager Mulattieri pulling one back temporarily after three first half away goals. Frosinone’s only positive display recently came in a 2-1 home loss to champions Juventus where Juhasz Baez canceled out Kenan Yildiz’s early opener prior to succumbing late on to a Dusan Vlahovic winner. Overall though, Frosinone have lacked defensive organization and attacking threat, issues the coach must address urgently.
Cagliari form analysis
Cagliari come into the new year with back-to-back wins, reviving their hopes of avoiding relegation after a poor first half to the campaign. Their most recent result was a dramatic 2-1 home victory over fellow strugglers Bologna. Responding well to going behind midway through the first half through an Andrea Petagna leveler before snatching an unlikely winner just after the hour mark courtesy of a Riccardo Calafiori own goal.
That excellent victory built on a hard fought 1-1 away draw at Lecce where substitute Gianluca Oristanio came off the bench to grab Cagliari a point with a second half equalizer. Prior to that stalemate though, Cagliari struggled through the festive period losing at home 2-0 to relegation rivals Verona. Being held to a drab goalless draw by Empoli. However, their best recent performance came in an unlucky 2-1 away loss at Napoli. Veteran striker Leonardo Pavoletti briefly equalized in vain midway through the second half.
