Freiburg vs Borussia Dortmund: Preview
Freiburg form analysis
SC Freiburg began their campaign with a solid 2-1 victory over Hoffenheim. Goals either side of half time, including an own goal, gave them a comfortable lead. While they conceded, Freiburg held on for the three points.
Freiburg then made it two wins from two with a 1-0 home victory against Werder Bremen. It took a goal in the 90th minute to see them over the line on that occasion.
However, Freurg’s form took a turn in the third match as they suffered a crushing loss away at Stuttgart. Conceding early, they were 3-0 down inside 20 minutes and the game ran away from them as they shipped two more goals.
In summary, while Freiburg had a strong start with back-to-back wins, their heavy loss to Stuttgart highlighted defensive vulnerabilities. Hoffen will look to back from their opening day defeat in their match
Borussia Dortmund form analysis
Borussia Dortmund began their league campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Cologne at home. It took until the 88th minute when a goal from Donyell separated the two sides. Dortmund dominated possession but struggled to break down Cologne’s stubborn defense.
In their next match, Dortmund were held to a disappointing 1- by Bochum. The visitors took a shock early lead through Sebastian Polter but Dortmund leveled through Malen just before the hour mark. Despite plenty of chances, Dortmund failed to find a winner.
Dortmund then dropped more points in their following match against Heidenheim. Julian Brandt and Emre Can, from the penalty spot, had given Dortmund a comfortable 2-0 first half lead. However, Heidenheim fought back in the second half through goals from Tobiasr and Kleienst’s 82nd minute penalty.
While Dortmund have shown an ability to score goals, their defense has looked shaky, conceding five goals in three games so far. If they want to challenge Bayern Munich for the title this season, Dortmund will tighten up at the back to close out tight games. Their attacking talent has kept them but dropping early points could prove costly by the end of the campaign.
