Freiburg vs Bayern Munich: Preview
Freiburg form analysis
Breisgau-Brasilianer has struggled defensively in recent matches, conceding 11 goals across their last five games. On February 26th, Freiburg fell 2-1 away at Augsburg despite Grifo’s opener as they conceded twice in the second half. Earlier on February 18th, Freiburg drew a wild 3-3 game with Eintracht Frankfurt as Grifo and Gregoritsch goals bookended Knauff’s brace for the visitors. Prior to that on February 10th, Freiburg was surprisingly hammered 3-0 at home by Borussia Dortmund behind a Malen brace.
On February 3rd, defensive issues were again on display as Freiburg fell 3-1 at home to Stuttgart, conceding three despite Kübler briefly leveling things. Freiburg’s best recent performance came in a 3-1 away loss at Werder Bremen on January 27th with Grifo converting a penalty for their lone goal. So while Freiburg has shown some moments of quality in attack, prolonged disorganization and porous defending has led to ugly blows in their recent form.
Bayern Munich form analysis
Bayern Munich’s typically brilliant attack has continued scoring goals, but uncharacteristically porous defending has led to unexpected dropped points recently. On February 24th, Bayern edged RB Leipzig 2-1 at home in a thriller thanks to Kane’s brace. Earlier on February 18th though, defensive issues were apparent again in an embarrassing 3-2 loss away at struggling Bochum, despite Kane and Musiala goals.
Prior to that on February 10th, Bayern shockingly fell 3-0 away to Bayer Leverkusen from goals by Stanišić, Grimaldo and Frimpong. On February 3rd, Bayern narrowly beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 at home with second half goals from Pavlović, Kane and de Ligt overriding an early conceded opener. Bayern’s best recent performance came in a 3-2 away win at Augsburg on January 27th powered by Davies and Kane strikes alongside a Pavlović own goal. So while Bayern’s attack continues producing at a high level, unusual defensive struggles have led to unexpected dropped points. Addressing defensive structure and consistency is vital towards resuming dominant form.
