Delhi Capitals Sign Jake Fraser-McGurk as Replacement Player
The Delhi Capitals bolstered their batting lineup for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season by signing Australian prodigy Jake Fraser-McGurk as a replacement player on Friday.
Fraser-McGurk, who went unsold at the IPL auction earlier this year, will take the place of South African fast bowler Lungisani Ngidi, who has been ruled out due to injury.
The 21-year-old batsman will join a familiar contingent at Delhi, reuniting with head coach Ricky Ponting and fellow Australians David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Jhye Richardson.
Fraser-McGurk burst onto the scene earlier this summer with a record-breaking performance. He smashed a century in just 29 balls against Tasmania in a List A match, setting a new mark for the fastest white-ball century in professional cricket.
His knock of 125 runs off 38 deliveries, including five singles and a staggering 13 sixes, solidified his status as a rising star in Australian cricket. Later on in Big Bash League, while playing for Melbourne Renegades, Fraser-McGurk scored fastest century for the team.
The right-handed batsman’s impressive form earned him his maiden national call-up in January. He featured in two One-Day Internationals against the West Indies, contributing a quickfire 41 runs off 18 balls in an eight-wicket victory for Australia.
Fraser-McGurk also gained experience in franchise cricket with the Dubai Capitals during the recent ILT20 competition in the United Arab Emirates.
The Delhi Capitals will be hoping that Fraser-McGurk can translate his domestic and international form into success in the IPL. His aggressive batting style could be a valuable asset for the team as they look to challenge for the championship title.
