AEW presented its Dynamite episode titled Big Business on Wednesday and the event garnered a lot of attention because of the debut of Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE. The company’s president, Tony Khan, had teased Mone’s debut ahead of the event and the fans were waiting for it.
Mone thanked the fans for sticking with her
Mercedes has to recover from ankle surgery first, and then she talked to both AEW and WWE. Ultimately, the deal was finalized with AEW and they waited for the right time for her debut. When her theme music hit, Mone went to the ring and acted as host for the show. She thanked the fans for sticking with her over the past few years. Fans supported her through the championship wins and ups and downs. She said they stuck with her as she made memories and lived a dream. Mercedes vowed to make many more memories now that she is officially part of the AEW.
Mone is expected to play a bigger role in AEW’s women’s division and there is speculation that they paid her a large sum of money as a draw for the company. Possibly outbidding WWE by a huge margin, Tony Khan is betting that she will prove to be a difference maker in the coming weeks and months.
Interestingly, the former WWE star drew attention to comments she made recently in a podcast. While appearing on the Kick Rocks Wrestling Podcast, Mone said, “I know I’m going to be back there (in WWE) one day, okay? So it’s not over. I have a lot of unfinished business in wrestling.” So fans are thinking that her AEW run may not last that long.
WWE Divas came to support their friend
WWE stars Bayley and Naomi were in Boston to support their friend in her new beginnings. This isn’t new, as Naomi has also visited Japan to support Mone in the past. Wednesday’s episode of AEW also featured World Champion Samoa Joe defending against Wardlow, Darby Allin vs. Jay White, and The Elite vs. Eddie Kingston, PAC and Penta El Zero Miedo.
