According to reports, 42-year-old Olympic swimmer Helen Smart, who competed for Great Britain in the 2000 Sydney Games, passed away. Smart’s former school in Greater Manchester, where she was the head teacher, acknowledged her passing.
Worsley Mesnes Community Primary School stated, “The tragic departure of our beloved Headteacher, Mrs Helen Smart, is something I must announce with tremendous sadness and regret, according to a statement from Worsley Mesnes Community Primary School. Our heartfelt condolences are being sent to Helen’s family during this incredibly tough time.”
According to LBC London, Smart, a backstroke specialist who competed on the Olympic stage under the name Helen Don-Duncan, earned bronze at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and silver at the world and European championships.
