A well-known wrestling superstar has recently expressed his desire to return to WWE, as he thinks he can make a difference this time. The superstar in question is Matt Cardona, who was released by the company back in 2020. Cardona, who was previously known as Zack Ryder, had nearly a 15-year stint in WWE. While many wrestling fans were disappointed with his release in 2020, Cardona found his groove in the circuit, becoming one of the most wanted free agents.
Cardona reflected on his 20 years in the wrestling business

Recently, Matt Cardona posted a video on his YouTube channel and reflected on him completing 20 years in the wrestling business. He also recalled being fired from the Stamford-based promotion and strongly believed his years in wrestling are still ahead of him.
“It’s been a great year, celebrating 20 years in this business, 20 years since my first match, four years since I was fired from WWE. Now I’m just coming back from injury,” said Cardona. He further stated that his doctors said it would take six to eight months, but he just took four months to recover. Cardona reflected on the fact that he is not getting any younger and he might not even hit the peak of his career, but he feels like his best years are yet to come.
“I’ve done it all on the indies. Winning titles, being on the cover of magazines all over the world, and it’s been fun, and I needed it, I needed to find myself, both as a performer and as a man,” said the former WWE superstar. He also revealed that after having a successful time independently, with WWE being an option, it’s time for him to return to the big leagues again. Cardona further questioned that he did it all and now it’s time to go back, so where does he go—back to WWE or AEW?
Cardona wanted to capture the WWE World title
He mentioned how Adam Copelaland at AEW Collision, a packed, real arena, not the Ukrainian Cultural Center in LA, and the crowd reacted to his entrance. It made him feel, ‘Ok, everything I’m doing is working,”. Furthermore, Cardona mentioned that he always wanted to be the top guy in wrestling and that his biggest goal in the business was to capture the WWE World title.

“You have to have that goal to be successful in this business. I’m very fortunate in my career, 20 years, highs and lows. But I never won the WWE World Title. That has to be the goal. Because if that’s not the goal, what are we doing?” said Cardona. His wife Chelsea Green also currently works in WWE and she is one of the most entertaining performers. Only the future will tell if Matt will get the chance to work in WWE again or not.
