In recognition of the country’s 77th Independence Day, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted a video on social media honouring some of its greatest players. There was no mention of Imran Khan, the former captain who led Pakistan to their lone World Cup victory in 1992. Read on to know more about the bowler Khalid Mahmood on PCB.
The absence of Imran from the video sparked a strong response from Pakistani cricketing greats. The PCB has now been criticised for failing to recognise Imran’s services to the national game on Twitter by Wasim Akram, a former captain who made his debut while Imran was captain.
Bowler Khalid Mahmood demands PCB an apology:

After acknowledging that he didn’t see the footage till he arrived in Sri Lanka, Akram said that the PCB should take down the clip and apologise. The well-known pacer begged the PCB to avoid fusing politics with cricket. He wrote, “I got the shock of my life seeing PCB’s brief documentary on the history of Pakistan cricket without the great Imran Khan after long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka… Regardless of political issues, Imran Khan is a legend in cricket who transformed Pakistan into a potent team during his reign and provided us with a route to success. PCB should apologise and remove the video.”
Former PCB chairman Khalid Mahmood has already demanded that the PCB’s video release be taken down. He stated to the “Aaj” channel, “This video must be withdrawn by the PCB immediately and released again with proper mention of Imran’s contribution to Pakistan cricket.”
