Finland vs Denmark: Preview
Preview & Predictions of the European Championship Qualifying fixture in Group H at Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
Finland form analysis
Finland showed signs of struggles in their first qualifier in March 2023, losing against rivals Denmark 3-1 away from home. Two goals from rising star Rasmus Højlund and a third late on secured an impressive result against the highly-rated Danes.
Next up was a gritty 0-1 away win against Northern Ireland thanks to Benjamin Källman’s strike. It was a resolute defensive display to grind out the victory.
Finland then recorded their biggest win of qualifying so far, beating Slovenia 2-0 at home in June 2023. Pohjanpalo and Antman grabbed a goal in each half to make it back-to-back wins.
Most recently, Finland hit top gear by destroying minnows San Marino 6-0 away from home. Kamara opened the scoring before Källman, Håkans with a hat-trick and Pukki rounded off the rout.
Denmark form analysis
Denmark began this campaign strongly by beating rivals Finland 3-1 at home in their qualifier in March 2023. Two goals from rising star Rasmus Højlund and a third late on secured an impressive result to make it two wins from two.
However, they were unable to maintain their momentum in their next game away to Kazakhstan just three days later. Despite Højlund continuing his goalscoring form with a brace, Denmark collapsed to a shock 2-3 defeat after leading 2-0.
Looking to bounce back in June, Denmark returned to winning ways by beating Northern Ireland 1-0 courtesy of Jonas Wind’s second half strike. It was an unconvincing display but a vital three points.
In their most recent qualifier at home against Slovenia, Denmark had to settle for a 1-1 draw despite dominating the game. Højlund again scored but they could not break down Slovenia again after conceding to Šporar.
Overall, it’s been a mixed bag for Denmark. While Højlund’s emergence has been a huge plus, defensive issues and an inability to kill off games has hindered their qualification campaign so far. Addressing these concerns will be vital for Denmark to progress smoothly to Euro 2024.
