The management of the Indian squad has summoned cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin to Guwahati ahead of India’s first ODI World Cup 2023 warmup match against the reigning champions, England. The team management chose to stick with the veteran spinner despite Axar Patel’s injury, and it is quite likely that they will also include him in the squad.
Axar sustained a thigh injury during India’s Super 4 match against Bangladesh during the 2023 Asia Cup. He has since been collaborating with medical professionals and physical therapists at the National Cricket Academy. The release of India’s final team, according to multiple media outlets, has been postponed because Axar has not yet regained his match fitness.
India will attempt to start the prestigious competition with a fully healthy and experienced Ravichandran Ashwin rather than a somewhat fit Axar Patel. The decision, however, has not yet been made. In the recently finished ODI series against Australia, Ashwin participated in two games. In two innings, he took four wickets and made an amazing comeback.
