Phan began his professional MMA career in 2001 and retired from the sport in 2017 after notable stints in promotions like KOTC and UFC. However, he continued to compete in boxing and Muay Thai bouts after retirement.
Phan might be suffering from CTE
The video going viral on social media clearly shows a decline in Phan’s speech, which has gone from clear and distinct to slurred, which has caused concern among his fans. The deterioration is likely the result of years of fighting and sparring in both the ring and the cage. His boxing career was also one in which fighters endure far more punches to the head than in MMA. People are speculating that Phan may be suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a brain disease that is caused by repeated blows to the head. It is a degenerative brain disorder.
He had a notable fighting career in MMA and Boxing
Nam Phan has had a notable career in combat sports and he has competed in several major organizations. He got recognition on The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck, where he showcased his striking skills and great perseverance. He fought in the UFC from 2010 to 2013 and earned Fight of the Night Honors three times.
Phan has also competed in MMA organizations like Bellator and Pancrase. He was known for his excellent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and boxing skills. He also holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Nam has demonstrated his skills in various weight classes, and he is a respected figure in the MMA community. During his career, Nam fought in a total of 38 MMA matches and 12 boxing matches. He retired in 2017 after suffering a technical submission loss to Robert Whiteford within 30 seconds. However, he continued his Boxing career until 2018, winning a total of 9 fights.
