Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has weighed in on Arsenal’s reported interest in AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana. Although extensive rumours linking the French international to the North London club, Romano has stated that there is presently not enough proof of a probable deal.
Fofana, who has had a standout season with AS Monaco, has caught the interest of many big clubs in Europe.
Fabrizio Romano provides update on AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana transfer
While mentioning recent opinions of Arsenal’s interest in Fofana, Romano said:
“Arsenal continue to be connected with midfielders ahead of this summer’s transfer window, with Youssouf Fofana of Monaco the latest name swirling in some media outlets,”
“I can promise that there is a lot of interest in Fofana from Arsenal and other clubs, but nothing solid at this stage. Fofana will make his decision in the summer, not now. So, nothing tangible is happening right now. Arsenal has several midfield priority, and I can confirm the names I’ve discussed in recent months, including Douglas Luiz and Martin Zubimendi.
“I’ve been impressed with Fofana’s performances so I’m not surprised he’s a name making headlines, but that’s just normal speculation that we always get at this time of year.”
The 25-year-old midfielder’s stellar efforts in Ligue 1 have triggered a bidding war for his signature, with Arsenal supposedly among those interested in a summer move.
However, Romano has reduced expectations, noting that Arsenal’s pursuit of Fofana is only hypothetical at this time. While the Gunners are looking for midfield additions to go along with Declan Rice, Romano believes that Fofana may not be their top choice.
However, Arsenal are thought to be focused on alternatives midfield possibilities, particularly Douglas Luiz and Martin Zubimendi, both of whom have long been on the club’s radar.
The uncertainty surrounding Jorginho and Thomas Partey’s destiny has increased Arsenal’s desire to add proven talent to their midfield ranks.
Meanwhile, Fofana himself is yet to make any definitive decisions regarding his future. Romano indicates that the midfielder is expected to evaluate his options once the current season concludes, keeping his next move under wraps until then.
While Arsenal’s pursuit of Fofana may have hit a roadblock, the midfielder’s stock continues to rise, with a host of clubs vying for his signature. As the transfer saga unfolds, all eyes will be on Fofana as he navigates the next chapter of his career in the summer transfer window.
