According to recent reports, the Delhi Police have arrested a former cricketer, Mrinank Singh, on charges of cheating multiple hotels and the Indian cricketer Rishabh Pant.
Singh is accused of deceiving five-star hotels by posing as a sponsor and billing them exorbitant amounts. Prior to these allegations, Mrinank Singh had represented Haryana’s U19 team, but his cricketing career did not progress beyond that level.
Mrinank Singh Also Conned Five Star Hotels
The Delhi Police stated that Mrinank Singh indulged in lavish parties at five-star hotels, associated with models, and travelled abroad while undermining the credibility of these hotels.
In his deceptive practices, he not only leveraged his past cricketing experience but also impersonated Karnataka’s Additional Director General of Police, Alok Kumar. The former cricketer was apprehended by the police at the Delhi airport while attempting to fly to Hong Kong.
The investigating officer, DCP Ravikant Kumar said to the media:
“In July 2022, he went to the Taj Palace and told them he was a celebrated cricketer and had played in the IPL. He stayed there for almost a week and his bill was around ₹5.6 lakh. He left the hotel saying his sponsor, Adidas, would foot the bill. However, the bank account numbers and card details provided by him turned out to be fake.”
While engaging in fraudulent activities with the hotels, Mrinank Singh falsely asserted that he was a Delhi University student who had completed an MBA from a college in Rajasthan.
In his misleading claims to the hotels, he asserted that he played for the Ranji side of Haryana in 2021 and had also been a part of the Mumbai Indians from 2014 to 2018. Authorities are verifying the accuracy of these statements made by Mrinank Singh during their investigation.
He also Defrauded Rishabh Pant
In addition to the charges above, the player is also accused of defrauding the Indian cricketer Rishab Pant. Mrinank Singh allegedly deceived the Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, cheating him out of nearly INR 1.6 crore. Mrinank purportedly presented himself as a businessman involved in the buying and selling of luxury jewels.
Talking about Rishabh Pant, India’s wicket-keeper batter is all set to make his comeback in the upcoming IPL 2024. He, recently, made his presence felt at the IPL Auction 2024, sitting alongside the likes of Ricky Ponting and Saurav Ganguly.
Pant has been working hard to recover fully before the IPL 2024. However, it is being said that he might be used as an impact player during the tournament.
