Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are all set to add a new tournament this year as part of its annual cricket calendar. Lanka T10 League will mark its inaugural edition in December this year.
The league was earlier scheduled to be played in June 2023, however, Sri Lanka Cricket believed that it would be better to shift to December. SLC reckoned that the December window would be the ideal time to launch the tournament as it will complement Sri Lanka’s Domestic and International Cricketing Calendar.
SLC Bullish About Lanka T10 League Success
Lanka T10 League comes as a new addition to the Sri Lankan cricket calendar, which should create more excitement among the fans. Some of the well-renowned international stars will be making their presence felt in the competition. Additionally, it will also give opportunity to the young budding cricketer to rub shoulders with senior players.
Sri Lanka cricket president, Shammi Silva believes that the upcoming Lanka T10 Lanka will become a successful affair.
“I have full confidence that this tournament will be a resounding success, contributing to Sri Lanka Cricket’s ability to stay current with the evolving trends in the game.,” said Shammi Silva, President, Sri Lanka Cricket.
“We foresee that this event will not solely captivate cricket enthusiasts, but also serve as a catalyst for popularizing the tournament broadly.” He added.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka are slated to play their next assignment against Bangladesh. The two teams will lock horns with each other in two Tests, 2nd ODIs, and three T20 internationals. The tour will begin with T20Is, starting 4th March 2024.
The Island nation last played against Afghanistan in a three-match T20I and ODI series. Hasaranga and Co. whitewashed the visitors 3-0 in the ODIs, followed by a 2-1 victory in the T20Is.
In the most recent news, the International Cricket Council (ICC) banned Wanindu Hasaranga for two matches after he accumulated a total of five demerit points in the space of 24 months.
The Sri Lanka skipper was slapped with three demerit points, following his unpleasant behaviour with the umpire. He breached ICC’s Code of Conduct by abusing the umpire over a no-ball call.
